I am pausing in the middle of one of my favorite movies (and folding laundry) to write what is on my mind. Hopefully I will keep typo's at a minimum because my head is racing.
Do you play the friend game? This Myspace concaution that good ol' Tom started could be a great psycological tool to dive into the deepest part of a persons mind and find out what really goes on in there. Most of us have love in our life. Most of us have friendship in our life. I can say that without a doubt, I am a part of true love. But I cannot say that I have ever been a part of true friendship. Oh sure, I have the list of friends, we all do. But some are old high school-mates, maybe an old flame or two...but are they really true friends? The kind that would come running if you landed in the hospital? The ones that would volunteer to be a pall-bearer at your funeral? The ones that would be there for you no matter what? Yes, there are people out there that have those friends. But I think there are more people out there that WANT to be those friends, but are too scared to volunteer themselves. I want to be that friend. I VOLUNTEER TO YOU, JOHN FRIEND OR JANE FRIEND, THAT IF YOU GET TO KNOW ME, I WILL BE THAT TRUE FRIEND. I talked with my 15 year old last night at church about this freshman in his class that everyone is annoyed with. Ben tells me that this kid brings it on himself with his actions. We knew that kid when we were in school. And we were just as annoyed. Not thinking for one second that his actions may have been a cry for a friend. Be my friend, thats all they may be asking. I told my son, in a Christian way, what would Jesus want us to do with that boy? Well, if his actions were that crazy, Jesus would have probably cast the demons out of him first...LOL, but then Jesus would have said, be my brother, be my friend.
Not everyone will read this. Not everyone will get past the first few lines. But if you have got this far, thank you. I will not be the judge of what a true friend is. I wont say that if you pass this on to so many friends you will have good luck. Only you know what you are capable of. Only you know if you want to be a true friend. It would be nice to actually start a "True Friends Club" you know? An organization where no matter what, we stand as one, we fall as one. Not a "Village" like M Knight Shamalamadingdong has in his movies, but just a group of old friends who say "I got your back". Is that part of the perfect world? Can we actually stop thinking so much about ourselves to give up a piece of ourselves for another?
You are great for reading this. I am your friend. I dont know how to say it any clearer. You will be proud to call me your friend and I will be just as proud in return.
God bless you and Peace, J......till next time
